High Fantasy
I’m assuming; if you’re reading this, you like movies? Good! I want to let you know that plenty of really great movies are coming up over the next few years. One genre that I’ve always loved is high fantasy, and it’s about time we start getting some good movies in that genre again. In a way, ever since Lord of the Rings came out, it seemed like all the great high fantasy movie ideas had already been taken by Hollywood; don’t get me wrong, I loved watching Lord of the Rings, but you have to admit at least part of your excitement for The Hobbit was because it felt new in comparison.
Sci-Fi/Suspense Thriller
2022 will be a fantastic year for movies with a slew of sequels, sci-fi and suspense thrillers, action films, and mystery thriller-related stories. This has already been a hot year for movie releases with the new Jurassic Park: the Fallen Kingdom and Ocean’s 8, which came out in June. Then there are the Marvel flicks, Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and The Wasp, and Incredibles 2 coming later this summer. There’s so much great stuff ahead!
Coming of Age/Dramedy
Teenagers and adults have been discussing what movies they’re most looking forward to in 2022. One movie we’ve all been waiting for is the teen coming-of-age dramedy. If you were going through some tough times in high school or grew up in a dysfunctional household, you’ll likely want to see what this genre has in store for you on the big screen. When it comes down to it, people are drawn toward coming-of-age movies for one simple reason: their stories don’t seem that far removed from their own. That is why we’re so excited about all the movies coming out next year!
Remake/Sequel
So this week’s Best Movies of 2022 is a bit longer than usual because it includes remakes and sequels. There are a few surefire winners, and we’re happy to report there will be no Hunger Games IV. But, be warned: some sequels do not come out until 2025. So you’ll have time to watch the originals while they’re still new (unless you’ve been watching 20-year-old movies since we were kids). We know what you’re thinking–that’s too far away! Relax; here are six notable films in theaters now:
Ghostbusters 2020 — We knew it was only a matter before Ivan Reitman got back together with Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray for a third movie.
Documentary
Despite the current trends in cinema, many pundits believe there is a revival in quality and creativity just over the horizon. Some predict an uptick as early as next year, but for this list, we’ve decided to focus on movies released in 2022. One great example is Matt Smith’s film about a coffee bean farmer on a remote island who falls victim to slave-like working conditions and can no longer live alone. This event causes him to have what he calls a Revelation. He turns his life around and starts drinking coffee from fair trade sources. While things may be looking up for the protagonist of The Revelation, others are still waiting for their Revelations–you won’t want to miss these five outstanding films coming out in 2022!
Horror Movie
Is anything scarier than being helpless, vulnerable, and outmatched in a horror movie? The feeling becomes palpable when you’re surrounded by the big screen images that have all the power to play on your emotions and shock you with intense sound effects. But it also doesn’t hurt when they make a movie scary by laying out the story. Get ready for our list of some of the best horror movies we predict will be released in 2022.
Romantic Comedy
4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days: Released in 2022, the film tells the story of two best friends who impulsively decided to get married and how they struggle to make their marriage work. This is a cute romantic comedy movie for couples with many hearts.
Fck Buddy No More: The film stars Anna Faris as Jenna Jones, who falls for her sister’s fiancee Jason. Jenna finally finds a good guy but soon finds herself as his fck buddy no more after she takes it too far at Thanksgiving dinner while drunk.
Period Drama
Set in the year 2036, six years after the events that lead up to the economic collapse of 2030, Vivian James (Keira Knightley) is an aspiring young fashion designer. She spends her time tending a garden on top of a skyscraper between caring for her six-year-old son Tyler and helping at home with cooking and laundry. Vivian is trying to make sense of this world where everything has changed. She looks back on her life so far, and as she recollects snippets from here and there, it becomes apparent that dark things are lurking beneath the surface, waiting for their chance to strike.
